Did you know, celebrating mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans? While they held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, the more modern tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before re-emerging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s, which was pushed for by a woman named Anna Jarvis. Funny enough, Ms. Jarvis later fought to undo this holiday, as she thought it had become too commercialized.
This commercialization of the holiday can be said of most holidays as we know them. Think Valentine's Day, Christmas and Easter. But should we toss it aside and not honor it? We think not. We think you can find a healthy balance and achieve it's true intention, gain meaning in the ritual and tradition of a day spent just showing your appreciation, while also showering your mother with a little TLC or bling. ;)
So with that in mind, we have put together a list of gift ideas, all handmade by yet another mother and self employed artist, Bonnie Boardman, who makes beautiful, ultra feminine jewelry for KG customers. She takes great care in creating her designs and making them, one-by-one at her in-home studio. So if you are looking for something unique for your mom, we've got some ideas for you below. Be sure to follow us on social media (Instagram here and Facebook here) for how to win some gorgeous bling for someone you love! We will posting about that in the coming days so don't miss it!
